Have Hammer Will Travel

I was helping my parents out this weekend with a remodel of their remodeled kitchen. The wood in their house is stained a dark brown, but their newly remodeled kitchen has a lighter brown colored cabinets. It’s annoyed my mom having the two different colored stains in the same room. So we took down the offending molding and cut new molding and kickboards. I hung new hardwired smoke detectors, hung baby gate anchors, and sanded down the window frame to accept stain. My dad helped me out and my mom will stain/polyurethane the molding so I can hang everything in the near future. I spent more time working on my parent’s house this weekend than mine. I only ranked my yard this weekend (I have a growing “honey-do” list with the baby coming).

My sister and Rich hosted Easter II this weekend. Last weekend Rich, Becca, and Richie were all sick so we couldn’t celebrate Easter with them. Vicky and Rich made brunch for us, my Mom and Dad, Mr. and Mrs. Bright, and Mike. It was a great brunch of French toast, bacon, sausage, fruit, and quiche. I got more parenting practice. Richie spit-up cookie on me while I was holding him. Richie got a Patriots football for Easter and he loved when I threw it up in the air and caught it. Richie clapped for me each time that I caught the ball (it made me feel like I was doing something special).

Parenting Practice

We got some practice being parents this weekend. We got to watch Sofia and Kayla Sunday afternoon. It was fun. Heather tried putting Sofia down for a nap in her sewing room but it was too bright and Sofia just cried. Heather eventually Sofia to nap in our bed downstairs. Heather didn’t want her to sleep on the bed alone for fear of her falling off the bed. So I went downstairs to watch Sofia. As soon as I touch the bed she began to cry and scream. I tried everything but nothing worked until I picked her up. She fell asleep on my chest with her head rammed into my neck. Sofia is a snorer and a drooler. I had a nice wet spot on my shirt when she finally woke up.

Kayla was shot out of a cannon yesterday. She was very hyper. Heather told Kayla to ask me for a drink, so she came running down the hallway. Kayla says, “Hi, can you get me something to drink?” I told her, “Ok.” Then she whispered to me, “Can I have soda please?” Let me think do I want to give an already hyper kid caffeine and sugar? I almost made the cardinal sin of giving her an energy drink instead. We have a packet of Crystal Light Energy in the cabinet that I almost gave to her. This would have made for an even more interesting day.

This whole baby sitting thing isn’t that hard. I don’t even think we are going to need daycare for our kids. I found out that placing small children in a dog carrier is a very effective way to keep them out of harms way. (No children were harmed during this photo shoot)

Sofia was very interested in petting Sandi and that is why she is crying in this photo, she couldn't get to Sandi in the cage. Sofia likes Sandi more than Bogey because Sandi moves slower and she doesn’t molest her when she gives kisses (Bogey is very aggressive with her tongue when giving kisses). Sofia was sitting on the couch with me, for a good ten minutes, petting Sandi and laughing the entire time

We're still here

I just thought we should check-in and let everyone know we’re doing well. Heather has stopped delivering for the cleaners and is now working in the store front. Heather is in heaven, she doesn’t have to be into work until 10 am most days and noon on Wednesdays. Heather LOVES to sleep. She is now experiencing what I like to call baby commas. She comes home from work and naps from 8 or 8:30 to 10 or 10:30. She then stays up for about a half hour and then goes to sleep. Everything with the baby is going well; Heather’s next doctor’s appointment is next Wednesday.

We had snow last week and Bogey loved the snow. I was shoveling the snow off the deck and Bogey was running from on side of the deck to the other trying to catch the snow in her mouth. Bogey also likes to chase snowballs. You can throw a snowball and Bogey will chase the snowball and dig at it with her front paws. I’ll get this on video and post after our next snow.

Talking about snow, I’m beginning to have golf withdrawal symptoms. I need the snow to go away so I can play some golf. Heather understands and lets me hit golf balls whenever I want. Luckily we have a driving range with heated and covered bays that allows me to hit balls even when it’s cold out. Everyone is telling me that I need to golf as much as possible before July 5th because live is going to change. It’s definitely going to be a change for the better.
